Continuing Covid Precautions

It appears summer weather is here!  The good news is this means it will be easier for us to have outdoor activities, and it is a safer way to come together in this continuing period of Covid infections.

While the opening of windows is most welcome right now, soon people may be thinking of air conditioning.   As a reminder, we still want to keep windows open a bit for continued air flow throughout our rooms even with the AC on.  In addition, as you may have realized, the new strains of Covid are particularly contagious but thankfully symptoms seem to be milder.  Nevertheless, we want to remain vigilant in reducing the spread of the virus.

Please wear a mask at all times while in the music lessons.  We also suggest that students and parents wash hands frequently!  While waiting in the hallway for your classroom to become available, please think to wash your hands with soap.  This is a good precaution before and after lessons. In addition, if you are not feeling well, regardless of a Covid test, it is recommended that you request a remote lesson or join your class remotely for that day. We want to keep our teachers safe, and limiting the spread of germs of any kind is most helpful.

As we approach the semester year end, the teachers are figuring out both their fall schedules and their summer schedules.  There will be a return of our June Music and Art camp from June 21-24. It will only be a four-day camp in observance of Juneteenth on Monday.  There will also be half day cello camps and chamber music as well as the seven week Preschool Summer Adventures and specialty puppet theatre camps.  Music Lessons are a la carte and this year Kasey Calebaugh will be offering a summer Violin group class.

I know this is a busy time of year and a very exciting time!  Outside of our Suzuki School, I know that many students will have special events planned. With respect to the teachers' time, our school has a no make-up policy.  That is, a teacher is not required to make up a lesson missed by a student.  However, advance notice of an absence can be helpful to arrange lesson swaps, so please do not hesitate to let your teacher know as much in advance as possible of any planned absence.

Music school evaluations are in progress, solo recitals are being presented the next two weekends, Waban Village Day is Sunday, May 22nd and Newton PorchFest is Saturday, June 4th.  These community events include our wonderful students.  There are even more events, so please check our website and the Friday UpBeat for more news.

Thank you to all who attended the First Annual Multicultural Festival last Saturday~for those who were there, I hope you had as much fun as I did!
