At SSN, we make an effort to foster a welcoming and diverse environment…

As seen on our mission page, we have a commitment to equal opportunity, and will not discriminate against anyone on the basis of age, race, religion, gender, disability, national origin or any other characteristic protected by state or federal law. It is expected that all are to follow this policy in dealings with children, parents, visitors and staff of the Suzuki School of Newton.

The vast majority of our students (62%) are people of color, and we are proud to be a school that supports students from diverse backgrounds.

Scholarships.

SSN offers scholarships to families with financial difficulties. In our last round of scholarships, we were able to support several families of color. We are dedicated to finding ways to support those in our community who need financial support, so that every student, regardless of their family situation or their race, can get access to a music education.

Music by POC.

We have been making an active effort to teach and preform music that is more diverse. The picture above is a screenshot from our 2021 Winter Faculty Concert, where our teachers Sachiko Isihiara and Bekka Eowind performed Fantasy No. 2 in F# minor for Violin and Piano by Florence Price, a black female composer.

Future opportunities.

We are looking to partner with other organizations to help further reach students who are unable to afford a music education. Our Executive Director is looking to establish a partnered program that would allow inner-city youth the opportunity to learn how to play violin.
