Our Vision
The Suzuki method is based upon many principles espoused by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki as he was teaching the violin in the twentieth century. He learned that children could learn so naturally how to play music beautifully if they were constantly nurtured, treated with respect, and surrounded by loving people who modeled caring for others, working hard, and serving the community. Our vision at the Suzuki School of Newton is to instill this love for music and to learn how to learn. We want to go beyond just playing music, so that we share our music with the community.
This weekend we have many solo recitals. The next weekend June 12-13th the violin department will be sharing their graduations outdoors on our lawn on Saturday from 4-6 pm and Sunday from 2-5 pm. Preschool graduations are on June 18th. On June 28th our students will be performing at the Hyde Center in Newton Highlands from 6 to 8 pm in the evening. These are all free events, and students may sign up through their teacher.
Why do we do this? We are sharing beautiful music with others, and helping our community feel more welcoming and neighborly. Our students learn the value of their hard work, gain confidence from being out in public and develop their own self esteem. The intrinsic value of these accomplishments are felt through these performances, graduations, and moments that bring people together. Above all, our students are learning to give their time and participate in a bigger community.
Likewise, our Suzuki Board of Directors work to sustain the school and lead us through the pandemic to a better place in the future. Their hard work and dedication help the small administrative staff of the Suzuki School operate fully and professionally. Please come meet these hardworking volunteers next Wednesday, June 9th at our Annual Meeting. And of course, please let me know if you might be interested in volunteering for the Board as we are looking for people to help us with marketing and fundraising next year. Our Suzuki Board members are giving their time and their selves to better our school's community.
We are a very strong community, and I am so grateful for the good fortune I have in working with so many wonderful musicians, educators, leaders, and all of you. Our world will be a better place, thanks to the dedication of our teachers in sharing so much of themselves with their students. As our children become adults, we hope they will always remember their years at the Suzuki School and the love from their parents, caregivers and teachers.
Our vision is that we will have more beautiful music and more noble citizens ensuring a better society and improving upon their communities.
